The Airport Taxis are considered, special taxis, with special fares. They are registered with a cooperative and pay a fee to operate at the airport. Fortaleza Airport Taxis are more expensive than the city taxis. They would be considered high priced if you compared them to the taxi rates you encounter in most metropolitan cities around the world.

Taxi fares normaly go up every year in Fortaleza and are to some extent negociable with driver before departure. There is a sign posted with Destinations and Fares. Fortaleza is divided into 4 zones. Each zone includes a list of neighborhoods and a fare.

Passengers will be welcomed by the driver holding a sign with
their name on it. Payable upon arrival in your destination.
Airport / Beach Park R$ 85.00 BRL

Bandeira (Flag) 1 for Weekdays (6 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
and Saturday's from (6 a.m. to 1 p.m.)

Fares are 50% higher and considered:

Bandeira (Flag) 2 on Weekdays from
(8 p.m. to 6 a.m.) and Saturdays (after 1 p.m.),
Sundays and Holidays.

Transfer from any Fortaleza Hotel daily to Jericoacoara R$ 75.00 BRL

Tipping is not obligatory but is appreciated. Especially if you have a lot of luggage or they go above and beyond the call of duty for you.

Passengers are now opting for more secure private car services in Fortaleza which often
allow the client to pay upon arrival at their destination.

Important: If you don't speak Portuguese. I would highly recommend writing the hotel or address where you are headed on a piece of paper with the agreed upon fare alongside it.

Make sure you have a firm agreement with your driver on the fare and where you are going before they start putting your luggage in the car!
